10) 1984 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: The editor is willing to concede a 13-0 season is a 13-0 season, but stop talking about it. With a win over 6-5 Michigan in the Holiday Bowl give it a break for a while. Even the KOLOB dialogue in elders quorum thinks this thing has played its way out. Most of the industrial world looks to the past in fondness and to the future in aspiration. Cougars look to the past as the future, present, and (I guess) always will. (By the way have you noticed that most BYU fans still wear the same game day attire they wore back in 1984, so I guess they still live in '84 so GO COUGS!)
9) SEAT STEALING: Most people buy a ticket to go to a game. Some people buy a good ticket to go to a big game. BYU Fans buy a bad ticket to take your good ticket and then look at you like what!?! Have you ever left a BYU game to go get a hot dog, maybe a coke (not in Cougar stadium), possibly a bathroom break only to come back half into your dog and find "Trevor the Accountant" in your seat? They look at you like, there is no way this is your seat man, go somewhere else. The problem is that this is the third quarter and you have had the same seats 20 years.Frustrating. (Then again being frugal is the best way.)
8) Biographies: Why does every past BYU player have a book? Ty Detmer, Steve Young, Shawn Bradley. What's next, "Max Hall the untold story of a boy and 5 interceptions," or maybe, "BYU 2008 why we are slow, white, and not living right," written by Austin Colle. Maybe the next best seller will be, "John Beck: Real Men Cry." Could you imagine other schools doing this? At Virginia Tech: "The Vicks, from fame to jail," or "Florida State: Why our coach keeps letting us play." This is a BYU thing for sure.
7) John Beck: Well we used to be able to make fun of John Beck for crying, but now that Utah has Coach Boylen we gained a little hypocracy.
6) BYU STUDENTS: This is more of a point of view aspect of the countdown, I prefer to see "Sam Wise" on campus, but it may just be me. (actual caption from this picture, BYU student Nathan Langford talks about his former habit of singing outside the Joseph Smith Building on campus. (Jason Olson, Deseret Morning News)
5) STEVE WOJCIECHOWSKI: I know he didn't go to BYU but he should have.
4) AUSTIN COLLE: If winning means you are living right, losing must mean you are not. So I do not want to be at a school where people are not living right. This is not part of the countdown, but I found it while looking for other pictures, classic BYU weight training i
n action.
3) MAX HALL: Well never mind, he is Utah's best player, so much for the Heisman. (not that anyone really thought he was in the running outside of PROVO)
2) JUSTIFICATION: if you are doing it while reading this blog, you are a Cougar fan so just embrace it. I am yet to hear a BYU fan that doesn't preface any other teams success without the asterisk of "yeah, but we won the national title in 1984."THE NUMBER 1 REASON NOT TO GO TO BYU IS:
They are not two time BCS busters!! (this is a present fact not living off of 2004)
