Memories....

When I met Kellen, his parents lived in San Diego and he was living in Salt Lake. He moved around from place to place while he was going to school there and so most of his belongings were stored at his parents house. A few of his things were sold at garage sales and other things I'm sure he just threw them away, so when I came around and wanted to know and see things that somewhat represented his childhood, there was not a whole lot left! He only had one box that had a Pound Puppy, a few pictures, and a football helmet in it, and that was it! He always claimed that everything was at his parents house. Well, we found it all the other day when we were cleaning out the garage! Kellen was so excited to see everything, and I have to admit, I was too! It was fun to see what a little boy collects over time. Boy scout badges and handmade dream-catchers. Wooden airplanes and trucks, handmade of course! Little army guys and comic magazines. Oodles of baseball cards and trophies. Everything he brought home from Romania, which I had never even seen pictures of. It was a great walk down memory lane for him, and I was loving getting to know that part of his life! We threw the trophies away right after this picture. Kellen didn't seem to mind. Which made me think about my closet at home a little...

You see, I also have boxes and boxes of things from my childhood, and sometimes I wonder if I should just throw it away. I am a VERY sentimental person, and I have some things that I have saved and I look at them now and I think why in the heck did I hold on to that! (i.e. wristbands from concerts I went to, dried flowers from old boyfriends, ect...) But I just can't bring myself to throw it away. I wouldn't say I'm a "packrat" because it's all neatly organized in boxes. I don't think I need Oprah intervention or anything, but I think I may go through some things next week when I'm at my parents and "consolidate"! I'm sure my Mom will be happy to see some of it go!

Crystal was over the other night and we read my journals from junior high and high school. So funny. She still has all of her old notes! How funny would that be? I'm pretty good about throwing things away because I HATE clutter, but when it comes to cards, or things I have written, or things written to me, I have to keep them too.

I really don't think it's a bad thing at all to keep a box full of old cards, notes and memories... You may think it's junk now but imagine Liv in 15 years and how fun it will be for her to whip out old notes we wrote to eachother about who we just made out with or how ugly our friends new hair-do is, hahaha... yeah on second thought, throw it all away!!!
